Confidence Isn’t a Volume Switch – It’s the Quiet Knowing That You Are Enough
When we think of the word confidence, many of us picture someone who’s loud, outgoing, and always knows what to say.

But real confidence? It’s often much quieter than that.
It’s not about being the loudest in the room. It’s not about never doubting yourself. And it’s certainly not about having everything figured out.
True confidence is the quiet, steady knowing that you are enough — just as you are.
It’s a feeling that lives beneath the noise. A deep trust in yourself, even when life feels uncertain.
The Misunderstanding Around Confidence
I work with so many women who say:
"I wish I was more confident."
But when we explore what that means, they often describe someone totally different from who they are. As if confidence is a performance, a mask, or something you have to earn by being ‘perfect.’
Here’s the truth: Confidence doesn’t require perfection. It requires presence.
You can be introverted and confident.
You can feel fear and still move forward with confidence.
You can make mistakes and still hold confidence in who you are becoming.
So What Does Real Confidence Look Like?
It might look like:
- Speaking kindly to yourself when no one’s listening.
- Saying “no” to what drains you.
- Letting yourself be seen, even if your voice shakes.
- Wearing what makes you feel good — not what’s expected.
- Trusting your timing, even if others don’t understand it.
It’s the small, powerful moments of backing yourself — especially when your inner critic wants you to shrink.
3 Simple Ways to Begin Building Confidence Back
1. Soften the Self-Talk
The way you speak to yourself becomes the way you feel about yourself. Start gently noticing your inner dialogue. Would you speak to a friend that way? If not, it’s time to soften. Replace harsh thoughts with affirming truths, like:
“I’m doing my best.”
“It’s safe for me to grow at my own pace.”
“I am enough — even on the quieter days.”
2. Keep Small Promises to Yourself
Confidence builds when we show ourselves we can be trusted. That doesn’t mean big, dramatic actions — just consistent ones. Choose one small promise today and honour it. Maybe it’s drinking a glass of water first thing. Maybe it’s five minutes of journaling. Little actions grow deep roots.
3. Be Seen Without Needing to Perform
Often, we think we need to prove our worth before showing up — especially online or in new spaces. But you are allowed to show up as you are. Whether you use a walking stick, are navigating menopause, or simply feel different — your presence is valid. You are valid.
It’s Not a Switch — It’s a Relationship
Confidence isn’t something you switch on overnight.
It’s a relationship you rebuild with yourself — gently, daily, with patience.
And the best part?
You don’t have to do it alone.
My coaching is rooted in exactly this — helping women reconnect with their self-worth, honour their story, and move through life with quiet, grounded confidence.
