What is executive coaching and is it right for you?

Executive coaching is a confidential, one-to-one partnership in which a coach helps a senior leader think more clearly, make better decisions and lead in a way that feels true to them. It is not training, consulting or therapy. It is structured space to think with someone who asks good questions and does not tell you who to be.

What does an executive coach actually do?

A coach listens closely, asks questions that help you see your situation from new angles, and supports you to decide what to do next. The decisions stay yours. Sessions work on real situations from your role: a difficult conversation, a team that is not working, a decision you keep putting off, or the pressure of a bigger job than you expected.

Who is executive coaching for?

Executive and leadership coaching suits senior leaders, managers and business owners who:

  • are carrying more responsibility than they expected
  • have moved into a bigger leadership role where the rules have changed
  • are leading well on paper, but it does not always feel like them
  • are the person everyone turns to, with little space to think for themselves
  • want to lead in a way that is true to them, without losing themselves along the way

How is coaching different from mentoring or therapy?

A mentor shares their own experience and advice. A therapist works with emotional health and past experience. A coach focuses on your present situation and future choices, helping you reach your own answers. Many leaders find coaching useful because it is practical, forward-looking and entirely confidential.

What are the benefits of executive coaching?

Leaders who work with a coach often describe more clarity, steadier confidence and better balance between work and the rest of life. Coaching gives you time to step back, see the bigger picture and leave each session with a practical next step.

How do I know if it is right for me?

The best way to find out is to talk. I offer a free 10-minute video call to explore what you are looking for and whether coaching feels right, with no pressure and no obligation. Coaching is online only, so I work with leaders across the UK and internationally.
